Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company supports the “Mada Campaign” with an amount of 1.5 million dirhams to contribute to the elimination of neglected tropical diseases
United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, June 20, 2023: Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company announced that it will provide 1.5 million UAE dirhams over three years to the “Mada Campaign” in support of its efforts to combat neglected tropical diseases.
The announcement came during a memorandum signing ceremony in this regard between the two parties, which was held at the headquarters of Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company, one of the regional companies specialized in providing multi-disciplinary insurance services to individuals and companies, in the presence of senior officials from both sides.
The entire amount that Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company announced will be allocated to the “Reaching the Last Mile Fund”, which is a multi-donor fund that aims to eliminate river blindness and lymphatic filariasis in the Sahel region of Africa, and which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. “May God protect him” during the year 2017.
These donations will contribute to supporting treatments, preventive programs and technical activities in the seven countries supported by the “Reaching the Last Mile Fund”: Mali, Niger, Senegal, Chad, Sudan, Ethiopia and Yemen.

Charalambos Mylonas, CEO of Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company, stressed on this occasion that this cooperation confirms the firm commitment of Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company towards charitable work, and its endeavors to make a positive impact in the communities in which it operates. He said: “Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company firmly believes in the power of work.” Collectivism, its importance and its ability to make a positive impact on societies both inside and outside the country.”
“We are proud to collaborate with this highly respected initiative, and we remain committed to meeting the essential needs of communities at risk of neglected tropical diseases,” he added.
Nassar Al Mubarak, General Manager of the Mada Campaign, expressed his “thanks and appreciation to Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company for making this generous donation, which expresses its continued commitment to improving people’s living conditions and livelihoods in the poorest areas of the world.”
He added: "Eliminating neglected tropical diseases is not only an achievable goal, but it is possible in the near future, and such partnerships are essential to help ensure that we reach the goals we seek, and end the cycle of pain, poverty and social exclusion caused by neglected tropical diseases." .
It is noteworthy that neglected tropical diseases affect one in every 5 people around the world, including one billion children. They are debilitating to the body and capable of causing disabilities and deformities to those infected with them, and may be fatal in some cases. These diseases affect the population in the poorest, most remote and needy communities and expose most families. A constant state of deficit and poverty, which costs developing countries losses amounting to billions of dollars annually.
More than 200 million people around the world need treatment for river blindness, while about 850 million people face the risk of lymphatic filariasis, and Africa alone bears approximately 40% of the global burden of neglected tropical diseases.
The Mada campaign is an initiative based in the United Arab Emirates that works to collect donations and spread awareness to support the eradication of neglected tropical diseases, with all proceeds from the campaign directed to the “Reaching the Last Mile Fund,” which since its establishment has provided more than 90 million preventive treatments and contributed to the training of more than 970,000. A person working in the health sector provided the necessary funding to perform more than 2,500 surgical operations to prevent long-term disability resulting from these diseases.
